Well, it’s happened about the way I expected… everyone I see seems to know me (and a handful of them I’m sure I’ve NEVER seen before in my life), welcomes me back, and asks how is the US (cold!). During dinner tonight, we were shepherded to the top level of the dining hall because the tables had been varnished, and everyone kept walking by and on seeing me exclaiming, “Heeeey! Happy New Year! Welcome back! You are most welcome! How is US?” It got to be frequent enough that Emmanuel wanted to get me a cloak so no one would see me. My friends are awesome. I especially liked the comment from one friend who was late for our arranged dinner time, “Boy, you’re punctual.” And that’s supposed to be news?
I made it through registration in only two trips to the athletic field (well, three if you include going to the old field, where instead of registration, they had a medium-sized market going on). I got cleared through Accounts, got my registration card, registered with the Theology Department, got my meal card. Whew. And it started out cold and rainy today, but BOY was it shiny by lunch time. Thank God for those tents.
A couple people commented on how white I am (again, that’s news?). I guess I had a slight (emphasis on the slight) tan when I left, and that’s what they remembered.
I’m moved in my room, registered, and that’s all I had to do. Well, I’m trying to brush up on my Hebrew, and conquer jet lag before Monday’s classes. I’ll need to get my hands on the as-yet unpublished timetable at some point, too. Other than that, I’m trying to enjoy the downtime before the roller coaster starts.
Nice night!
