On Monday, I went back to Kampala to get the receipt from the bank that I needed for Immigration. This is when I learned what the first teller meant when he told me to go to the URA; what he meant to say was that I needed to go to the URA section of the bank, which is two doors up the street, to pick up my receipt. That was painless enough. The pain came at Immigration. Apparently I was missing some paperwork from the school that I didn’t know about.
I talked to one of the guys in the Director of Student Affairs (DOSA) office briefly; he doesn’t know what paperwork there is either. I’m not encouraged by that. However, he seems to think this will be easy enough to resolve (which I think is a general Ugandan outlook on things). I fervently hope it is; my current visa expires 4 Aug, and my schedule only lets me go to Kampala on Mondays. To say that I’m stressed about this is like saying that D.C. got a little rain in June.
So I’m going back to the DOSA office Tuesday. I’m really, really hoping they can take care of this for me (as they did with everyone else’s passports, but they’re all from East Africa, and have internal country agreements that make things easier), or at a minimum, come with me back to Immigration to help me get this sorted out. Stay tuned…
praying that it all falls into place.
Ah the joys of getting stuff done when you have a Western outlook in a non-Western country…
Will be praying for you!
