Two days after

July 13, 2010

Today I learned that some UCU alumni were killed in the blasts on Sunday; they were Mass Communication students with my classmate Amos.  Burial should be in the today-tomorrow time frame.  The New Vision (one of the papers) is reporting 74 dead (14 foreigners, which includes 1 American), and at least 57 injured.  Please continue to pray for comfort and healing for the victims and their families.  President Museveni has declared a week of mourning.

Since we’re outside Kampala, things feel a bit surreal here, though it’s close enough to be real.  A couple students have asked me if the bombings scared me; not really.  September 11 was much worse.  Apparently, the FBI has arrived to help with the investigation.  They must’ve boarded the plane to Entebbe right after the news broke.

Collateral damage from the blasts is that the internet fiber optic cable was damaged, so internet availability is less than normal.  I don’t know which cable and how severe the damage is; I received a text from Orange, since I have their modem.  I’m grateful that communication is still possible, even if it’s impaired.
