Sundry thoughts

May 21, 2009

– most Ugandans think my name has two syllables, as in “Hallo, Jess-ca!” I’m even starting to say it when I introduce myself.
– It’s hard to come to the library early on Saturday morning to do your reading, and all the books you need have already been checked out. This is going to be interesting. The good news is that we all know that we’re in this together, but for two classes, we’re combined with the Bachelor of Divinity students, which makes the class about 50. And all of us need the same book.
– Sunrise and sunset happens fairly quickly here. For some reason, I’m surprised.
– I’m told that it gets hot in July and August. I’m hoping that’s just because the rainy season is done. It’s the word “gets” that’s troubling me. Having said that, I think I’ve adjusted to the climate as much as I’m going to. I can hike the campus terrain fairly well, though I’m still not going to walk into town in the afternoon – that’s plain silly (in my American mind).

I love the mental image of your companions calling "Hallo Jessca!" I can't believe you've been gone for almost two month, and I am just beginning to catch up on your blog….

    Hi Jessica,
I finally remembered where I had placed the card you gave me with your blog address. It’s enjoyable to read your posts. Your wit is still intact, I see. I’ve now got an RSS feed to your blog, so I can stay up to date with your happenings. Take care, Charles.

Happy Memorial Day… I appreciate your service, Dave! And no matter how many vowels I add, Dave is still one syllable…

I always thought your name had three syllabels… JESS-I-CAH! I guess that is three syllabels and and an exclamation point!
Happy studying and Happy Memorial Day – Dave Pasq.
