Requesting prayers for my godson

February 1, 2016

I’ve reached that odd time in life when one’s heart is simultaneously broken and full. Saturday night, my fabulous godson Nick was in a snowboarding accident, and crushed his C6 vertebrae. It’s a miracle that he’s alive; it’s also a miracle that he was able to go off the ventilator Sunday morning. God’s grace abounds!

So that’s the heartbreaking thing – my sweet, funny, cheeky, intelligent, God-loving godson is in ICU with a critical injury, one that has innumerable implications for the rest of his life. I’m pleading with God for more miracles, even as I know that God is with Nick.

The heart full part is seeing that there was a huge turnout for a special prayer service for Nick at church – knowing that the church came together for this remarkable young man brings me to tears every time I think about it. Seeing various posts, comments, and pictures of him on Facebook also fills my heart with joy and love, knowing that people quite literally around the world are praying for him is a great comfort, especially since I’m 8,000 miles away.

If you’re seeing this, it’s likely that you’ve already seen something about Nick. Please join in praying for his healing, recovery, and provision for his recovery. It’s a long road, and Nick is one resilient and determined young man.

There is a CaringBridge page for him if you’d like to track his progress, and a GoFundMe page if you’d like to donate towards his medical expenses. First up: transporting him from Pennsylvania to a spinal rehab hospital in Virginia. The assessment and logistics piece of all that begins Monday morning.

I just want to bring him desserts like I used to do when he was little, and sit and pray with him.  I’m grateful that God will never leave nor forsake him.
