The president won his is bid for reelection, which really surprised no one. I saw one tweet that probably sums up the country’s feelings:
Museveni won the election.
And the next one.
And the one after that too.
Thus far, there have been some disturbances in Kampala. There is a large police and army presence in the city, and obviously, they are in no mood for silliness.
What concerns me is that the school term begins tomorrow. That means that today and tomorrow, parents are taking their children to boarding school, and tomorrow’s jam will again reach legendary status as the day students are taken to and from school each day. If one wanted to capture the nation’s attention, it seems to me that this is the time to do it.
Please continue to pray for peace for Uganda, but also for East Africa. Though Burundi doesn’t make national headlines, they have never settled down. Rwanda has some issues with its president seeking a third (and unconstitutional (though I’m not clear on whether that’s been resolved)) term. The region does not need any more destabilization.
