My mom recently forwarded me an email from my aunt that said that spraying Listerine around an area where you will be is a mosquito deterrent. I have no idea why – perhaps they don’t like the alcohol. To apply for say, a room, one should apply to the door frame, not the wood door itself (again not sure; perhaps to not damage the door?). The email claims that praying Listerine on a wood deck prevented mosquitoes from ruining an otherwise fabulous summer evening.
I had no idea that I would find Listerine in Uganda. I had to go to the ‘nicer’ supermarket in town, but there it was. I spent an obscene sum of money for 250 mL of the green stuff, and I don’t know how often one should apply this for those of us who live in mosquito-infested places, but I’m game. I’m also not certain whether it works, though the hall has a nice, minty fresh scent after I apply it to the doorframe. I will say that I’m now more likely to leave my door open during the twilight hours than I was previously, but once it’s dark, I’m still closing up shop.
