About two years ago, I had a spectacular fall, and chipped one of my incisors. A dentist in Kampala fixed it more spectacularly, and I was immensely grateful.
Fast forward to yesterday, when I managed to undo that spectacular dental work. I called the dentist to see if I could get in today to have it fixed. The dentist wasn’t going to be in, but when I told the receptionist that I would normally be willing to wait until Monday, except that I am preaching on Sunday, and I would love to have it fixed for the services. Vanity, thy name is Jessica.
The receptionist called me back to say that the dentist would come in to fix my tooth. My lecture for the day had already been cancelled, as the students requested time to work on the assignment I had given. The dentist didn’t charge me for his work; he only charged me for the cost of the repair itself.
Each of these things isn’t a huge deal, but I see God’s fingerprints all over it. The tooth chipped when I only had to attend our Thursday evening Eucharist, and I didn’t have to talk too much. The tutor on duty actually came to the service. I was free to go to Kampala, and didn’t have to worry about making up a lecture with my students. The dentist only charged me for materials. Great is His faithfulness indeed! I am amazed at how God can work in our lives, in both big and small ways. And I am grateful.
