I am so honored to play a small role in what the International Justice Mission (IJM) is doing in Uganda. IJM is partnering with churches to preach about God’s heart for justice (and His heart is big!), and then interview potential land-grabbing cases, and conduct will writing clinics.
The vast majority of Ugandans do not have wills, and therefore it is common that when a man dies, the family comes to take over the land, displacing the widow and children. Though it seems odd to us, without a will, the widow and children (now considered orphans because they have lost a parent; those who have lost both parents are called total orphans) really have no recourse.
We piloted this program last semester, and will be expanding to more churches in the January semester (Theology is currently off-session). My students reported that both they and their message of God’s heart for justice were received well at the churches. I am excited for how God wants to work to bring justice to His people, and am honored that I can play a role, no matter how small, in that.
