Today we received visitors from Uganda Partners, the wonderful non-profit organization that has been supporting UCU financially for years: they raise money to provide scholarships for students, and have provided the monies for several buildings on campus (to include the new library – construction starts in September!). In chapel this morning, when they asked the scholarship students to stand, I was one of the very, very few who did not stand. Please consider this a shameless plug to ask for support for them: it’s because of their scholarships that most of my friends could come to UCU for training.
The acting dean asked me to escort the visitors for a time this morning, and I had a wonderful time visiting with them. Later in the afternoon, my friend Henry asked if I enjoyed seeing my countrymen (yes) and if I enjoyed being around people who looked like me (that didn’t matter). Then he, the scientist, said “Jess-ca, I was observing you with the visitors. You are still the whitest out of all of them.” So true, so true!
